The goal of this paper is twofold; first, we show the equivalence between certain problems in geometry, such as view-obstructions, billiard ball motions, and the estimation of covering radii of lattice zonotopes. Second, we utilize the latter interpretation and provide upper bounds of said radii by virtue of the Flatness Theorem. Our results allow us to specify how rational dependencies in the view-direction influence the obstruction parameter. These problems are similar in nature to the famous Lonely Runner Problem for which we draw analogous conclusions.  相似文献

In this paper we give lower and upper bounds for the volume growth of a regular hyperbolic simplex, namely for the ratio of the n-dimensional volume of a regular simplex and the \((n-1)\)-dimensional volume of its facets. In addition to the methods of U. Haagerup and M. Munkholm we use a third volume form based on the hyperbolic orthogonal coordinates of a body. In the case of the ideal, regular simplex our upper bound gives the best known upper bound. On the other hand, also in the ideal case our general lower bound, improved the best known one for \(n=3\).  相似文献

Normal categories are pointed categorical counterparts of 0-regular varieties, i.e., varieties where each congruence is uniquely determined by the equivalence class of a fixed constant 0. In this paper, we give a new axiomatic approach to normal categories, which uses self-dual axioms on a functor defined using subobjects of objects in the category. We also show that a similar approach can be developed for 0-regular varieties, if we replace subobjects with subsets of algebras containing 0.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the sequence of balancing and Lucas balancing numbers. The balancing numbers \({B_n}\) are given by the recurrence \({B_n = 6 B_{n-1} - B_{n-2}}\) with initial conditions \({B_0 = 0, B_1 = 1}\) and its associated Lucas balancing numbers \({C_n}\) are given by the recurrence \({C_n = 6 C_{n-1} - C_{n-2}}\) with initial conditions \({C_0 = 1, C_1 = 3}\). First we find the perfect powers in the sequence of balancing and Lucas balancing numbers. We also identify those Lucas balancing numbers which are products of a power of 3 and a perfect power. Using this property of Lucas balancing numbers, we solve a conjecture regarding the non-existence of positive integral solution (x, y) for the Diophantine equation \({2x^2 + 1 = 3^b y^m}\) for any even positive integers b and m with \({m > 2}\), given in (Int J Number Theory 11:1259–1274, 2015). Also we prove that the Diophantine equations \({B_n B_{n+d}\ldots B_{n+(k-1)d} = y^m}\) and \({C_n C_{n+d}\ldots C_{n+(k-1)d} = y^m}\) have no solution for any positive integers n, d, k, y, and m with \({m \geq 2, y \geq 2}\) and gcd\({(n,d) = 1}\).  相似文献

Donovan’s conjecture states that there exist only finitely many Morita equivalence classes of p-blocks with a given defect. This conjecture was shown by Radha Kessar to be equivalent to two other conjectures, one of which is that the basic algebras of p-blocks with a given defect can all be defined over a single finite field. We shall show that this latter conjecture is equivalent to the seemingly stronger statement that all p-blocks with a given defect can be defined over a single finite field.  相似文献

A manifold is locally k-fold symmetric if for any point and any k-dimensional vector subspace tangent to this point, there exists a local isometry such that this point is a fixed point and the differential of the isometry restricted to that k-dimensional vector subspace is minus the identity. We show that for \(k \ge 2\), Riemannian, pseudoriemannian, and Finslerian locally k-fold symmetric manifolds are locally symmetric.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to show some rigidity results for complete Riemannian manifolds with parallel Cotton tensor. In particular, we prove that any compact manifold of dimension \(n\ge 3\) with parallel Cotton tensor and positive constant scalar curvature is isometric to a finite quotient of \({\mathbb {S}}^n\) under a pointwise or integral pinching condition. Moreover, a rigidity theorem for stochastically complete manifolds with parallel Cotton tensor is also given. The proofs rely mainly on curvature elliptic estimates and the weak maximum principle.  相似文献
